(Venice, Italy)
Close to Campalto, Mestre and Tessera, Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) stands just 13 km / 8 miles north of central Venice, Italy, across the water. Marco Polo Airport is amongst the most significant in the whole of northern Italy and is currently enjoying a major period of expansion, a project known as the 'Venice Gateway'.
A new runway and terminal have just been constructed and further plans include a major conference centre for up to 2,000 delegates, numerous shop complexes, a hotel with almost 400 guest rooms, and also many surrounding businesses and offices, all of which will be based around a scenic lagoon. Located alongside Marco Polo Airport, the centerpiece of the Venice Gateway will be the water transport terminal, which will feature an eye-catching canopy and stylish architecture.

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) Information: History and Facilities
Venice is home to one of Italy's most famous airports, the Aeroporto di Venezia Marco Polo (VCE), which is actually named after the city's famous explorer, Marco Polo (1254-1325). Dating back to 1960, the airport was constructed following a major landfill project, which reclaimed a substantial 25 percent of land from the lagoon.
A range of services and amenities await passengers passing through Venice Marco Polo Airport. In general, the terminal is split into four main areas, with arrivals located on the lowest floor, check-in and departures on the next level, and a mixture of offices and VIP lounges on the top floor. Facilities include Travelex and Banca Antonveneta branches, Cassa di Risparmio di Venezia cashpoints, family areas, Elite Duty Free stores, wine bars, and eateries, such as the Italian espresso bar, Cafe Marco Polo.
Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) Information: About Venice Tourism
Filled with literally miles and miles of canals, Venice is considered to be a city of romance and lies in Italy's Veneto region. Venice comprises a series of large islands, connected by waterways and many historic bridges. Many of the most famous landmarks in Italy reside within this beautiful and rather unusual city, such as the Rialto Bridge (Pote di Rialto), the waterfront Doge's Palace, and the stunning Basilica San Marco cathedral, which resides on St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco).
Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is close to Venice and is also near to a number of other popular Italian tourist destinations, such as Tessera, Campalto and Mestre. However, most people flying into Marco Polo Airport head straight for Venice and enjoy a cruise along the Grand Canal, or even a trip in one of the city's legendary gondolas.
